Down at Dover St.
You can tell that spring is on its way in Mayfair – not by crocus or snowdrops in Green Park, or the first hardy smattering of people standing outside the area’s pubs to drink, but the bi-annual Tachiagari held by inimitable style mecca Dover Street Market. Meaning ‘beginning’ in Japanese, Dover Street Market closes down for three days every January and July and re-opens to welcome the new season with fresh ideas, new collections and curated spaces.
In keeping with the ethos of Tachiagari, designers with their own spaces are encouraged to participate in the store revamp. For spring, Ann Demeulemeester will be re-designing her space for the first time since Dover Street Market opened in 2004, and Hussein Chalayan is undergoing a complete renovation. As always, Alber Elbaz brings his playful spirit to the Lanvin space with specially designed red bunnies.
Alongside original and returning designer collections, Tachiagari also allows for new spaces to be introduced and new designers to be unveiled. For SS12, these include the introduction of Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen and a minimalist shoe and bag space. Exciting new designers to the store will include Phoebe English, Jacquemus, Simone Rocha and Greg Lauren.
